This was Raf's first canning experience; he's hooked already, of course. Man, I look tired. Stupid prego puffiness. Btw, let this count as a bump update, while we're at it! We haven't taken a belly pic in ages.
We made 2 batches our first night (and yes, this does imply that there will be many more plum posts to come!)
Batch 1: Basic Plum Jam
Based loosely on this recipe from Bay Area Bites. In reality, it went something like this:
- 8c (heaping) halved, pitted plums
- 4c sugar
- 1/3c lemon juice
Notes: Cooked 1 hour before starting to set. A bit tart for me, but Raf likes it.
Yield: 3 pints + 4oz jar
Batch 2: Cinnamon Plum Jam
Based on this recipe from Phe.MOM.enon. (Isn't that the best blog name ever?!) Our version:
- 8c chopped plums (approx. 3lbs.)
- 5c sugar
- 1/3c lemon juice
- 1t ground cinnamon (heaping. always heaping.)
Notes: YUMMY! Sweeter than the last batch--more to my taste. And the cinnamon is grand! Cooked 40 minutes.
Yield: 3 pints + 2 4oz. jars
